Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - Put everyone in a room in the admissions building and watched a video about UMich (pretty cheesy). Basic admissions info that you get on every visit from an admissions officer.
Campus Tour:
Yes - The weather was perfect for a tour--60s and sunny. Tour went through several buildings, lecture rooms, the main quad, libraries, the usual. A big campus but not overwhelmingly so.
Classroom Visit:
Yes - Observed a chemistry lecture for a minute or so. Not much else to say.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
4 - Very Good
Not too much interaction with students, but it was a Friday before a home football game the next day (Notre Dame) so everyone was decked out in maize and blue. Definitely a sense of community.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
3 - Good
Again, not too much interaction with people besides the tour guide, who was somewhat incompetent but we got to see everything so it turned out alright.
Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
Everything very well-kept. The library we saw was gorgeous and there were several grassy areas that looked very serene despite the bustling, large campus.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
4 - Very Good
See above.
Dormitories:
Didn't get to see any.
Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
Loved it! It was a really good size, everything was clean and pretty, and the facilities were great.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
5 - Excellent
Ann Arbor = ultimate college town. State Street is right off campus and is the quintessential street for college life.
City/Town/Community:
5 - Excellent
Ann Arbor IS U of M. The town definitely caters to students. The whole community bleeds maize and blue, especially on game days.
Campus Visit Notes for University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
Visit Description:
Went on the info session/tour in the morning and spent the afternoon looking around Ann Arbor. Both of my parents went to U of M so they knew where to go. Zingerman's for lunch...amaazing! Overall I got that "chills" feeling--the one prospective students always describe when they visit the campus that they know is just right for them. The campus was big but not too big, the students were diverse and spirited, Ann Arbor was the perfect college town, and the feeling of gameday (Saturday vs Notre Dame) was unbelievable. GO BLUE!
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
ZINGERMAN'S! There are several restaurants on State Street and on other streets surrounding campus with diverse dining options also.
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Go to a football game if you can--you won't want to go to school anywhere else.
