Campus Visit Notes for University of Missouri-Columbia
Visit Description:
As a result of this visit, my DD indicated that Mizzou went from "the bottom of her list to the top of the list". The office of admissions is impressive and should be a model for other schools. They make it easy for students to register for the information session/tour, send a written confirmation with a package that includes directions and a parking pass. Upon arrival for the information session, admissions staff were very welcoming and accommodated our request to meet with staff from the Honors College. Furthermore, the information session, conducted using a PowerPoint, was comprehensive and the presenter was friendly and welcoming. The tour of the Mizzou campus lasted over an hour and allowed us to see a good part of the campus, including a dormitory and the outstanding recreation facilities. At the conclusion of the tour, we were taken to a dinning hall, where we were able to eat lunch. I can see why the tour guide said that there was such a thing as the "Freshmen 22" at Mizzou.
We also attended the J-School's information session, which was informative. Additionally, we met with a professor from the Honors College who gave us a comprehensive orientation regarding the benefits of the Honors College.
All-in-all, I was pleasantly surprised by Mizzou, and DD filled out an application as soon as we got back home.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Columbia (not the one that is adjacent to campus), which was very nice.
