Campus Visit Notes for University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Visit Description:

everyone met at jackson hall, the undergraduate office of admissions. the first thing i did was sign in and grab some campus info. parking wasnt too difficult. then, we waited for a few minutes for the tour guides to show up. amongst the people at the tour, i noticed that a good portion of them were wearing carolina apparel, which was different from all the other campus tours i went on. theres a lotta unc love all over the country =)

i believe there were 5-6 tour guides, and you could randomly choose which one you wanted to go with. i chose a rising senior from greensboro, NC who had the cutest southern accent lol. first, she took us to where some of the dorms are located and talked about them, but we didnt actually go inside. then, we made our way to the main quad, where the Old Well is located and most of the students hang out. legend has it that if you drink from the old well's fountain on your first day, you'll get a 4.0. we also went into one of the academic halls to discuss academics/answer any questions people had. then, we went to one of the dining areas on campus, which had tons and tons of choices and even an escalator!

i was really excited about seeing The Pit, which is where all the action happens (club info, performances ,event info). my tour guide said that if you sit in the Pit for 24 hours, you will literally see every single student on campus pass through! the student union is really nice, also. its just a place where students chill and grab a drink/study.

the tour ended at wilson library, which is THE study area for hardcore students. you can "literally hear a pin drop in that place", according to my tour guide. a scene from "patch adams" was filmed inside the library..just a random fact.

the information session was your typical hour of "..and admission is extremely competitive..blahblah". i was disappointed that they didnt show one of those "inspirational" videos of students saying "chapel hill is the greatest decision i ever made, etc". but oh well. the admissions guy who spoke to us was really funny but kinda got off-topic at times.

overall, the tour of UNC was great, despite the sweltering carolina heat.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

we stayed in durham the night before (wingate inn), where there are tons of hotels, although im sure theres plenty in chapel hill too.
