Information Session: Yes - Admissions was unfriendly The room was packed! Only two families were from NC. He said, "You'll get the last laugh...we only take 18% out of state students. State Law!"

Campus Tour: Yes - Very long tour. The student seemed more interested in speaking to friends and telling us how popular he was. Lots of information though but no organized and tough to follow.

Campus Visit Notes for University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Visit Description:

It was at the top of my list, number two. The Admissions person did not seem positive about admission for out-of-state applicants. His entire presentation was just very negative! We did not feel welcomed and he did not seem to care whether we were there or not! The room was "standing room only" and all from other states except two families. He made that perfectly clear! He even made the statement when he asked who was from North Carolina and two raised their hands, " Don't be shy...you'll get the last laugh." Our state allows only 18% of the students to come from out-of-state. The rest of the information seemed to be directed towards the two families! As we toured, one lady from there tried to "clean up his act" about the 18% state law. She seemed embarrassed with the tone of his presentation.

The tour was long and confusing. The explanation about majors was unclear. He was very soft spoken and gave most of the tour "on the run" stopping only a few times. There was no time set aside at the end to sit and ask questions like at others schools. He pointed us in the direction we began and left.

I now feel if I get in...I get in. If I don't...oh well!

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

I don't know, we did not stay.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

I did not stop on the way, but the campus food was good and lots of variety.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

I do not know. There did not seem to be much going on in town. We did see several buses. The town seemed small and very quiet. It seemed more appropriate for the "mature crowd".
