Visit Activities:
Admissions Interview:
Yes - I met with my brother's previous teacher who is now an Associate dean. I'm not sure if you could call it an admissions interview though, it was more of a getting to know you. Nothing formal.
Information Session:
Yes - Great information given and all questions were answered.
Campus Tour:
Yes - Good information, but it was kind of boring. I did leave early because my brother was with me and he showed me a lot of the campus beforehand.
Classroom Visit:
Yes - Sort of. I didn't sit in at a class as I visited in the summer. However, I went in to a few classrooms and they looked very nice and hi-tech.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
4 - Very Good
Again, I visited during the summer, but my tour guide was a student and she was very friendly.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
5 - Excellent
I met with a lot of the staff in the Annenberg School of Communications and everyone was awesome! The teachers were nice, fun and very friendly. I thought I lot my sunglasses and everyone helped look.
Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
Just a beautiful campus. Lots of palm trees, gardens, and well-maintained green grass.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
4 - Very Good
There was some construction going on, but it didn't really affect any of the area around it. Everything was great!
Dormitories:
Didn't get a chance to see them. However, I heard they're very nice!
Security/Safety:
4 - Very Good
The campus itself is very secure. Lots of gates, security boothes when driving in, and almost too many security people riding around.
Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
Awesome landscape, buildings are nice, and everyone is so nice.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
2 - Fair
USC is kind of an oasis in the bad part of LA. I just drove to the campus from Beverly Hills, so I didn't get the full experience of the area around it but I've heard it's pretty bad.
City/Town/Community:
5 - Excellent
There is so much to do in LA. Great beaches around it, Disneyland is close, Hollywood is fun, and all the areas around it are great as well.
Campus Visit Notes for University of Southern California
Visit Description:
I really loved the Communications department. Everyone was so nice and were more friendly than professional. They joked around with me telling me how much better Annenberg is than Marshall. Just really down to earth nice people. Everyone I met was always nice enough to take time to meet with me. I had nothing scheduled with any of the staff, but a teacher took 10 minutes to meet with me and the Associate Dean met with me for about 20 minutes even though I just dropped in. Everything about my visit just felt right, like I was at home. If I get accepted, I would love to come despite the financial burden it would create.
