Campus Visit Notes for University of Virginia

Visit Description:

This was myself and my son's first trip to the area. We visited both WIlliam and Mary and UVA. While both schools are beautifully/well maintained facilities, we preferred UVA. We loved the Charlottesville area and we absolutely loved the campus. We loved the architecture and were impressed that the school has chosen to maintain it's colonial charm. We have seen so many other campuses where very modern buildings which do not blend with the older buildings. The students were very friendly and they all seem to be very involved in the school. While the curriculum seems challenging, it appears that the students are able to pursue extra-curricular activities. Our biggest concern was that the school is highly competitive for out of state students and my son may be disappointed that he cannot go to his first choice for college.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

We chose to stay in Williamsburg, where we could see both WIlliam and Mary and University of Virginia. There are many places to stay near both colleges.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

The campus of UVA is right near the downtown area of Charlottesville where there are a variety of places to eat.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

We chose to rent a car. The signage in Virginia is excellent which made it easy to get around.
