Visit Activities:
Admissions Interview:
No - UVa does not hold interviews for undergraduates. I attended the "Days on the Lawn" program for admitted students.
Information Session:
Yes - It was fair; nothing too fantastic
Campus Tour:
Yes - Nothing new. Basically, a here is this building! and there is that! with a couple of interesting facts and tidbits sprinkled in. Your usual tour.
Classroom Visit:
Yes - I got tricked into sitting in on an Ecology class. Don't ever go to BIOL302. I feel asleep. Check the COD online for classes on the day you visit and just sit in the back of a class your interest
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
5 - Excellent
At DOTL, you can have lunch with current students;I had lunch with some and that solidified UVa as my college. I got lost and the students I stopped were helpful and offered to show me my destination.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
5 - Excellent
I ate at Newcomb (bleh) and the staff were friendly. Go to O'Hill guys! The food is better and as first years, you'll be eating more often there than Newcomb if you live in first year housin
Appearance of Campus:
4 - Very Good
It rained which detracted from the overall feel. The grass was green; the first time I went, all of the grass was dead. Grounds were taken care of nicely. No overgrown bushes anywhere.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
5 - Excellent
Dormitories:
4 - Very Good
- I visited both Old and New dorms. The old dorms room looked small and cluttered. I currently live in old dorms so I know it was just the style of the room we visited. Loved new dorms.
Security/Safety:
5 - Excellent
Blue lights everywhere (push them and the police will come.) There were police around, but not an overwhelming amount. No sketchy looking objects/people/cars anywhere, including the Corner.
Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
Much better than my first visit. I had visited on move in day and my experience was HORRIBLE. The campus was nice, not too big, and the Corner was very quaint.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
5 - Excellent
The Corner shops offer a good selection of goods. From food to UVa gear, there's a lot to be found. Check out some of the food with your parents; they can pick up the bill. :)
City/Town/Community:
2 - Fair
Not too much to do in actual c-ville. UVa is active and nice, but there are definitely parts of c-ville I will not be wandering into.
Campus Visit Notes for University of Virginia
Visit Description:
If you have a bad experience when visiting a college, try going again if you can. You may have had a bad guide first day, weather may have been off, etc. I know that was the case for me when I first visited UVa; I hated it. And now, I'm a student.
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Take the UVa buses. They're free. Park at the Newcomb garage when your there for a visit; admissions will validate your parking. Leave your car there and explore grounds.
