Campus Visit Notes for University of Virginia

Visit Description:

My son and I were expecting to be totally WOW'd by the school. It's a beautiful historic campus, but our visit was nothing what we expected. First, it was snowing as I drove down the road from DC. Snow in April?! Then, the school seemed so very crowded: classes, lunch, and just walking around. Mobs of kids everywhere. Along the way, I saw two friends hug each other, saying they haven't seen each other in weeks. (compare that to a LAC). Finally, the admissions person gave us a very uncomfortable feel. She was much more interested in talking with another in-state applicant than us and I walked away wondering if it was a bit of reverse prejudice. I'm sure it's a terrific school for some (my nephew loves it), but it wasn't for us.
