Campus Visit Notes for Whitman College
Visit Description:
This was D's top choice before we visited any colleges, and the school did not disappoint. She remains very enthusiastic about Whitman. Not sure the realities of its middle-of-nowhereness have set in yet!
As mentioned, we toured during Whitman's school break, so did not meet any students other than our tour guide. However, another HS student from our area also toured Whitman when it was in session, and pronounced the study body "too granola" for his tastes.
I worry a little that, with a very outdoorsy student body, my decidedly non-outdoorsy D may feel a little lonely and out of her element, especially on weekends.
We met with the chair of the music department. D is a harpist and wanted to explore the possibilities of continuing harp in college. While most colleges perk up their ears when they find out that a perspective student plays an uncommon instrument, Whitman was not encouraging at all. A symptom of being so far away from cities of any size!
