Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: No - I'm a junior now so they said not to sweat it yet and that they will come to my city in my senior year.

Information Session: Yes - The information session was very...informative... The lady was very nice and addressed many of my main concerns and inquiries about the college

Campus Tour: Yes - Was great, the lady who led it was cool and down to Earth, but also gave us plenty of information about the college and answered every question I had

Classroom Visit: Yes - Went to two classes - CORE and Sociology and the Body. Both rocked. The core prof wouldn't let me in on the discussion much, but the SOC prof treated me like I was a current student - he was tigh

Campus:

Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
4 - Very Good
4 - Very Good
Overall, the kids at Whitman seem really down to Earth, relaxed and chill, which are characteristics I like in most people. Only complaint is I ate breakfast all by myself and no one cared.

Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
5 - Excellent

The staff ROCKED! They are so helpful with everything. When I needed help getting my stuff out of my hosts dorm and such they were extremely helpful.

Appearance of Campus:

Beautiful greenery and streams, but some oddly placed statues were questionable. Oh and it was snowing when I was there so the whole place looked incredible.

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
4 - Very Good
4 - Very Good
I can't complain about anything facilities wise, but the cleanliness didn't knock me off my feet or anything.

Dormitories:
3 - Good
3 - Good
Whitman is ranked as some of the best dorms in the country by PR, but I find this rating questionable; Whitman is my first college visit though, so maybe dorms are worse than I think.

Security/Safety:
4 - Very Good
4 - Very Good
Felt very safe despite lack of security guards and such. Only reason it's not a five is that it's located pretty close the state prison D:

Overall Campus Impression:
4 - Very Good
4 - Very Good
Beautiful campus, though a bit TOO small for my tastes. Other than that I loved it.

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:
3 - Good

Ehh I'm a fan of small towns but not THIS small.

City/Town/Community:
3 - Good

As stated above, the only problemm about Whitman to me is that there is nothing to DO in Walla Walla. But maybe that's a good thing- no places where I could get distracted when I need to study.

Campus Visit Notes for Whitman College

Visit Description:

The first thing I noticed about Whitman is the one word I can use to best describe the college as a whole- ORGANIC. The girls (mostly) didn't wear make up, the guys (mostly) wore wrinkly T-shirts and jeans, and overall people seemed really genuine. There seem to be two types of people at Whitman- the laid back, chill and relaxed type and the overachiever, extraverted, talk to you all the time type. I found a fond liking of both.

My host was well prepared for my visit and got all his homework done early. I asked questions about Whitman to which he responded with some helpful and honest answers. After dinner we played ping pong and watched this one show with some other students about a family that has 17 kids or something, which was interesting.

I talked to many different current students and the overall consensus is that CORE SUCKS. However, I found a somewhat fond liking for the class, at least the discussion I was involved in, as the experience is basically a mixture of history, philosophy and English, which are like my three favorite topics.

The intramural sports = huge deal comments are totally true. Also, club sports. Kids serious about varsity, I wouldn't really reccomend this place for you. However, I much rather prefer sports to be laid back affairs anyway so this seems like the perfect college in terms of athletics for me.

Overall, my experience at Whitman was overwhelmingly positive. I am very much leaning towards it being my first choice (still deciding between Whitman and Cornell U as my first choice, but I'm pretty sure I'll end up choosing Whitman). Everything about the college fits what I want to achieve and what I aspire to be. My only complaint is that while I appreciate the small town factor, it would be nice if there was at least a Pizza Hut or Panda Express or something.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

My parents and I drove down there, with my dog, and my parents stayed in some hotel while I did my overnight visit. Forgot the hotels name but they were cool w/dogs if that matters to you.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

I live in Seattle, and found it best to just have my parents drive there and find a hotel, or you can just drive there yourself if you're old enough.
