Set in a lovely little town. Convenient to UMass Amherst, which had a nice social scene.

Amherst is a decent-sized town with a Target and other familiar chain stores/restaurants.

Amherst is part of a five-college system (others are Smith, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and UMass). You can take classes at other schools, use their facilities; shuttles run from campus to campus,

As I said, the campus is rural. Nevertheless, the town is very nice (traditional New England middle class) and quaint.
