Visit Activities:

Information Session: No - Unfortunately, Bates doesn't offer weekday info sessions except on a few specific dates

Campus Tour: Yes - Bates runs split tours for parents and students, so I didn't need to hold back all the questions! Tour covered lots of the highlights of the campus and guide was able to answer many questions.

The designated tour visit room was locked, so we saw two other rooms unannounced. But looked very decent, one was larger than normal with lots of space. Most rooms are doubles in halls, not suites.

The immediate area of Lewiston was much better than I expected, hearing that it is a depressed town. The close area is residential and looked nice.

City/Town/Community:
We didn't see much more of Lewiston

Campus Visit Notes for Bates College

Visit Description:

Bates splits their tour for student and parent groups separately. There were about 8 sets of students/families on our tour. One younger sibling came along with the parents, one mother tried to stay with the student tour until she was kicked out :-)

Lots of things happening on campus. They were blowing leaves into a big pile or a leaf jump. It was election day and lots of activity for that on campus. Bunch of kids interested in sports but not everyone. D remarked that all the kids in her tour did at least one sport. Three new capital projects recently- new dining hall, new dorm, and walkway. All the new and old buildings seemed well maintained and good continuity between them and rest of campus.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

we ate in the Bates dining all right between breakfast and lunch and the food was excellent

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

admissions parking lot was full, we parked in a student lot and luckily did not get ticketed, but admissions office said they would take care of it if we had.
