Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - The thrust of this part of the visit was all about telling students/parents how difficult it is to get admitted to BC. We were told they have SO MANY qualified students apply.

Campus Tour: Yes - A well-spoken, polished student did quite well considering the weather that day....pelting freezing rain as we moved from building to building. No visit to a dorm. Stood in the lobby of an academic

Classroom Visit: No - We were not offered this, but we didn't ask either.

Campus:

Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
5 - Excellent

Each student we dealt with seemed polite and articulate.

Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:

This was a low point...everyone was businesslike to the point of being brusque.

Appearance of Campus:
4 - Very Good
4 - Very Good
We had just come from another campus tour in Boston where windowsills needed painting and general upkeep was poor. BC looked great after that.

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:

See above.

Dormitories:
I will never understand why colleges don't include this in their tours.

Security/Safety:
3 - Good

Actually I really wouldn't know from the day we spent there. There is a part of campus that is secluded from the main campus, and to which students have to take a shuttle bus.

Overall Campus Impression:
3 - Good
3 - Good
The campus itself was lovely, if remote seeming. Students looked polished and conservative.

Off-Campus:

Pretty enough.

Campus Visit Notes for Boston College

Visit Description:

Other posters have commented on how convenient BC is to Boston, but we felt like we were kind of out in the boonies. The train is on the end of the line, and it is not a "quick trip" to go in to Boston for dinner, for example. Overall, we felt the students were polished and well-spoken. We would have appreciated a dorm visit, and the campus visit would have been horrible if it hadn't been for the nice tour guide. We just weren't shown much.

We visited three colleges on our trip to Boston. I can't think of ANY other visit where I felt as herded around as we did here at Boston College. The admissions employees would do well to lose their "attitude" which doesn't ride well at any school, but it's not like we were visiting an Ivy. I guess it was worth the trip though; my D had it on her short list prior to visiting. She never mentioned BC again. And I never asked her why. Saved us the app fee.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

We stayed in Boston and took the train out.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

All in Boston.....Legal Seafood!

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Train stopped across the street from BC's main entrance. It was okay, but not near as convenient as, say Boston Univ. where there are multiple stops right in the middle of campus.
