Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - Very nice. It was lead by one guy, and there was also a student there to answer questions. Information given and then they fielded audience questions.
Campus Tour:
Yes - Good. Covered a lot of the basics, though it felt a bit rushed, probably because the campus is so big. The leader was knowledgeable and friendly.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
3 - Good
The visit was during the summer, so there weren't any students around. The tour guides were very friendly and approachable though.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
Did not meet any.
Appearance of Campus:
4 - Very Good
Very big, very urban. It was clean all over and very nice looking.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
4 - Very Good
Excellent. Perhaps only because it is the summer, but still good overall.
Dormitories:
4 - Very Good
Saw only one, in Warren Towers. It was pretty small, and had an ok view, but it was definitely liveable.
Security/Safety:
3 - Good
It was pretty urban, so that means something. All buildings have card-swipe stations for more protection, which was nice. The neighborhood was nice too.
Overall Campus Impression:
4 - Very Good
It was nice, but a little bit too big for me. It was very intergrated with the city and had a lot to offer in terms of programs and activities. Good overall.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
4 - Very Good
Near Kenmore Square, which is great for college students. Overall good area, seems pretty safe.
City/Town/Community:
4 - Very Good
Its Boston. Seemed nice, a lot to offer in food, transportation, etc.
Campus Visit Notes for Boston University
Visit Description:
I went to an information session, which was good, but seemed to cover mainly the basics. It answered a lot of questions for people, even though there were about 100 people in the session. The guy was pretty funny, as was the student answering questions. We then went around with a tour group of about 30 people and saw all of the buildings. Overall, it is a really nice campus, and definitely a plus for someone desiring an urban environment. However, there wasn't really a "quad" and the campus was REALLY big, covering a lot of blocks.
After the tour, mom and I went to Brueggers, which was a treat. Then we went to the Fitness center for a tour of that. It is absolutely fantastic. They offer a lot of programs (including credit courses) in a lot of different areas, from aquatics to belly dancing to beach-body workouts. They also have a really nice olympic size pool and squash courts. A lot of equiptment for use open to BU students.
On the way home, mom and I stopped at the Jamba Juice on campus (the only one in MA) and checked out the dining hall. It had a lot to offer, including a Starbuck's and chinese food. Good overall.
