Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - Boring and unhelpful relative to the others I've been to
Campus Tour:
Yes
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
4 - Very Good
Students at info session were helpful in answering most questions asked.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
Didn't encounter any staff.
Appearance of Campus:
2 - Fair
Completely urban feel made me hate the campus. Major road and T go right through middle of campus. T is convenient, but there is no definitive campus.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
4 - Very Good
Buildings looked good inside and out.
Dormitories:
Didn't stick with the tour long enough to see any.
Security/Safety:
4 - Very Good
Put a big emphasis on safety; own police department, never seemed to be a concern.
Overall Campus Impression:
2 - Fair
Couldn't get over the urban aspect of the campus.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
4 - Very Good
Bustling, seems like there's a lot of places to go. Fenway Park being right next to the campus is a huge bonus.
City/Town/Community:
5 - Excellent
Boston. Enough said.
Campus Visit Notes for Boston University
Visit Description:
Info session was very subpar. My brother and mom fell asleep, and I couldn't pay attention. What I did hear wasn't different from any other college information session. Question about the lack of a campus was answered pretty vaguely. Overall, uninformative and unhelpful.
The tour guide was helpful, but, again, the campus was just way too city-like for my taste. Our tour guide frequently got drowned out by the sound of buses and other traffic. If you can handle a campus smack in the middle of a city, I recommend BU, but if you can't, don't bother even visiting. I would certainly be applying if it weren't for this aspect. It's even more urban than George Washington.
My brother liked the campus, so that was good, but I've crossed BU off my list.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
I'll post this in my last visit report; 4 more colleges to visit in the next 2 days.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
Ate at the Union Oyster House, the oldest continuously running restaurant in the US, for lunch. The best clam chowdah ever, and good food overall.
