Visit to Bryn Mawr College in May 2006 by gonzo lux (Student, HS Class of 2006)
Visit Activities:
Admissions Interview:
Yes - This was my first interview, so I was a bit nervous. The interviewer was the head of international admissions (I'm not international). She was very friendly and invited my parents in at the end for questions. By the end, I was not stressed at all. Campus Tour:
Yes - I went during the summer, and I believe I might have been the only visitor on that day. I received my own tour guide, who showed me campus. She even pointed out the college President who just happened to be walking around! The facilities were older usu
Bryn Mawr College Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 5 - Excellent -
I did go in the summer, so the students I met all worked in admissions. The three I did meet were incredibly nice.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 5 - Excellent -
Everyone was so helpful and kind. They provided water and coffee. They also patiently listened to me while I tried to navigate on the way there.
Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent -
There was some construction, but that is just a sign of progress. As I said before, many of the buildings are older, but I mean national historic landmark old, not 70s. The quad is gorgeous!
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 5 - Excellent -
All the buildings I went were clean. The buildings were very well maintainted.
Dormitories: 5 - Excellent -
The dorms were huge! They have wooden floors! 70% are singles according to admissions. Some even had stained glass windows. (NOTE: most of the dorms don't have a/c but it is in PA)
Security/Safety: 5 - Excellent -
This was perhaps the poshest town I had ever been too. I didn't even see a gas station for miles. The whole area was upscale residential and more colleges.
Overall Campus Impression: 5 - Excellent -
I really loved this campus!
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 5 - Excellent -
There were no shops to squander your money on, but the surrounding area was beautiful. I'm talking mansion after mansion.
City/Town/Community: 5 - Excellent -
I actually visited family for a week about 15 minutes away in King of Prussia, so I saw the whole area. I really liked it a lot. There was tons of history.
Campus Visit Notes for Bryn Mawr College:
Visit Description:
I must say the libray for Classics was particularly wonderful! Check out the fountain that Katherine Hepburn supposedly broke while skinny dipping! Look for Athena, their pagan goddess (it's a big inside joke).
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
I stayed with family
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
Unfortunately I don't recall any names
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
I didn't see much parking, I am almost positive that freshman cannot have cars
