Visit to Bryn Mawr College in April 2007 by Allyscribit (Student, HS Class of 2008)
Visit Activities:
Admissions Interview:
Yes - My interviewer put me at ease immediately. Conversation topics included my passions, my high school, my rigor of schedule, why I liked Bryn Mawr, the idea of a woman's college, and the Honor Code Campus Tour:
Yes - I missed the tour, and so they called down a private tour guide to take us around. She was very well-informed and friendly. My only complaint was that we did not get to see a dorm room.
Bryn Mawr College Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 5 - Excellent -
Everyone was polite and full of smiles. On our tour, people would stop to wave. This is a limited perspective though, because I only met a few students.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 5 - Excellent -
The staff was accomodating and not at all snappy. The professors with whom I met were very friendly, and they were full of useful information about my department and the school in general.
Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent -
The buildings are all gorgeous castles, except for one black building. The greenery is abundant and lovely. I was not crazy about all the hills, but that's just personal taste.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 5 - Excellent Security/Safety: 5 - Excellent -
There are safety buttons all over the campus along the paths, attached to every light post.
Overall Campus Impression: 5 - Excellent
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 4 - Very Good -
The highlight for me was a train station five minutes from the school, useful for getting home since freshmen can't have cars.
City/Town/Community: 3 - Good -
Though the neighborhood immediately around Bryn Mawr is nice, it goes right onto a major highway.
Campus Visit Notes for Bryn Mawr College:
Visit Description:
While I was there, I met with two Classics professors. They were both helpful, and gave me important insight. I highly recommend doing that. The professors are all easy to get in touch with on the Bryn Mawr website, and everyone I spoke to was glad to answer questions. My interviewer also seemed impressed that I had taken the initiative to do that, an added bonus.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
We stayed at the Comfort Inn at King of Prussia. The Continental Breakfast was nice, but there was nothing to do and the fitness center only had three machines.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
We ate at Red Lobster and The Cheesecake Factory. The Cheesecake Factory was nice, but there was a forty minute wait. We also ordered from Michael's Deli, and it was decent.
