You can fly in to BUR, but LAX is cheaper. GPS makes it a lot easier if you don't know your way around.

Everything is reachable by bike. There's a SuperShuttle if you want to go anywhere far.

You don't have to fly into LAX. Both Ontario and Burbank airports serve major airlines and are a lot closer. Occidental College is nearby, and the Claremont Colleges aren't too far away. You can do a lot of college visiting pretty fast.
