Visit to Case Western Reserve University in April 2008 by pmrlcomm (Parent of Student, HS Class of 2009)
Visit Activities:
Admissions Interview:
No - Son is a junior. Just looking around for the time being. Information Session:
Yes - Seemed pretty generic. We had visited with our daughter 2 years ago so we were alredy fairly familiar with the school. Campus Tour:
Yes - Aside from the fact that they use a "tour" dorm as far away from everything else as possible it was fine. Not the most photogenic campus we've seen but serviceable.
Case Western Reserve University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 3 - Good -
It was Greek Week. One of the fraternities was passing out popsicles. My son liked that. Really didn't have too much other interaction.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 4 - Very Good -
No complaints. We must have been the only people that stopped by to talk to the Astronomy guy at the info session. He talked forever...
Appearance of Campus: 3 - Good -
We thought it was kinda spread out and random. Nothing wrong with it. Seen nicer, seen worse.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 3 - Good -
Entered a few buildings, mostly older ones. The were in fine shape for their age.
Dormitories: 3 - Good -
Only got to see the dorm they set aside for tours so can't really comment on any other housing.
Security/Safety: 3 - Good -
No interaction.
Overall Campus Impression: 4 - Very Good -
We liked the campus. It would be a good fit for our son. I doubt he really cares too terribly much about how attractive his surroundings are. They are sufficient.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 3 - Good -
All of the culture around campus is nice. The campus has an industrial feel.
City/Town/Community: 3 - Good -
It's Cleveland. I'm from Cincinnati. I hate to admit it's a nice place.
Campus Visit Notes for Case Western Reserve University:
Visit Description:
Things were good. It hasn't changed in the 2 years since we previously visited. The interaction with staff we had at the information sessions was good. They seem very passionate about what they do. Our son will almost assuredly apply there.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
Really nice Holiday Inn Express downtown. A converted bank. The rooms are huge. Highly recommend.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
Didn't actually eat in Cleveland or at the University.
