Visit Activities:
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
5 - Excellent
Met several students and asked them where the heck the stadium was and where I'm supposed to play ultimate frisbee with friends. They were very friendly and polite.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
4 - Very Good
very helpful
Appearance of Campus:
3 - Good
Gorgeous campus but a bit overcrowded. It seems like a small city under siege by all the cars and new yorkers.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
3 - Good
No constructions or repairs and the campus is very clean. Might be a negative thing because of the lack of development.
Dormitories:
4 - Very Good
Haven't been inside a room but the dorm buildings look nice
Security/Safety:
5 - Excellent
Overall Campus Impression:
3 - Good
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
2 - Fair
Sure, it's NYC. Plenty of restaurants and women. But the cars make a ton of noise, which does leak into Columbia.
City/Town/Community:
5 - Excellent
Campus Visit Notes for Columbia University
Visit Description:
Columbia is a great place, but I felt a bit claustrophobic being there. At one end is an endless body of water, at the other end is an endless chain of cars and skyscrapers. Columbia creates the impression of a fortress, with tall buildings blocking everything out at the borders. And of course, at the middle is the Low Memorial Library that resembles a mosque. Comparably it's overcrowded. There's people walking and sitting everywhere. And the lack of athletic facility is another negative. There are no stadiums, and athletes have to drive out of the campus to practice. Imagine trying to get in and out of NYC every day. Most people maintain their fitness by going to the gym which I believe is underground. Others play baseball (more like tee-ball) or frisbee on what little patch of grass they can find between benches
