Campus has independent safety system, but it's still New York City. |

Especially considering the NYC location, I felt very safe. According to our tour guide, Morningside Heights is the 2nd safest precinct in Manhattan (or maybe in all of NYC?). |

Despite being in NYC, CC seemed very secure and hearing about the emergency hotline (call the # and security will come get you and take you back to campus) erased any fears my mom had about CC. |

Even though Columbia is in a big city, the campus (and the city, for that matter) is relatively safe. |

security personel are very particular about checking your id and holding it till you return when you visit a dorm |

I didn't get a feel of safety this time though it seemed fine. from the past visits: very good. carded at every door and lights all over. The campus is very self-contained so it's okay. |

I always felt safe on campus. I saw several security guards walking around and didn't come across any sketchy looking people aimlessly wandering around. |

Despite its location, I got the impression that it was safe. |

It's basically located in spanish harlem. Just don't go walking outside of campus after 12 a.m. But, really you shouldn't be walking around that late anyways or rather that early. |

Columbia is very safe. They have the blue light system, safe havens, and an escort system if you need them. However, the tour guide said she had never heard of anyone actually using them. |

I thought it was good. It is NYC, but there are plenty of safeguards w/ ID card entrance to buildings, and the campus is more self-contained from the city than other urban colleges I visited. |

i wouldnt feel too safe here..the dorms and the library are safe places since u need access there, but any other building is open to the public, so anyone can come in from the street (not safe!!!!!!!) |

Apart from being located on the North side of Manhattan, I felt pretty safe, plus they have really strict Security to get into the dorms so i really didn't worry once i was inside the dormitories |

I was amazed at how secure and safe the campus was. There were police officers at each campus entrance and the area around campus looked surprisingly safe after what I had heard about New York school previously. |

Well, you're tucked away from the city within the massive walls of the college, so it felt very safe. Then again, all of Morningside Heights felt like a very safe area. |

There were guards on campus, and you had to show ID to get into every building. The only downside was that one city sidewalk ran right through the campus, so anyone could be on campus (although not the buildings). |

Security guards were not to be found, and the blue lights weren't as easy to spot as on other campuses. The general message was: you'll be fine if you don't do anything stupid. |

columbia employs the largest private security force in NYC. It's very safe, even if it is adjacent to west harlem. |
