A multitude of student-budget-friendly stores & restaurants were located on the surrounding streets, and a subway stop practically on campus. |

The UWS was great. The prof. we talked to described it as more "neurotic" than the UES and midtown. You could feel the eccentric character, which stems from the academic institutions in the |

The school is surrounded by little stores, groceries, and cafes and everything is walking distance. If you ever get tired of campus food, a variety of food options is just a few minutes away. |

There were museums, other colleges, stores, and other attractions either within walking distance of the campus or easily accessible by public transportation. |

The area immediatly around campus is great. Normal college town atmosphere. Nice restaurants/bookstores/shops. Just don't go east across the park or above 125th and you're safe. |

If you go uptown, it gets a little bit better. But, if you head downtown it gets worse. |

I didn't really have much time to look around, but it was mostly residential, and more laid back than Manhatten. |

I thought it was pretty nice--didn't look rough or anything to me. But I'm not a New Yorker..I don't know what was lurking a block or two away! |

Nice area of NYC with a lot of little restaraunts. I came into contact with quite a few Columbia students in Morningside Heights so they are definitely spread out in the neighborhood. |

Well Columbia is right next to Harlem, so it was a little "ghetto," but it really didn't seem that unsafe--just the aura of Harlem (oh excuse me, Morningside Heights). |

The area immediately surrounding the campus is sort of boring, but it's right next to a metro stop. There's a drugstore, the bookstore, a couple dives, but not so much else. But it's in a relatively safe part of NYC. Just beyond: go seve |
