Visit to Cornell University in December 2008 by ReninDetroit ()
Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - The info session at Cornell was the most formal of those I visited. They had a PowerPoint presentation and a very friendly but down-to-business type of speaker. It was much more informative and school
Cornell University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 4 - Very Good -
I didn't meet too many, but there were some smiles as we were in Ithaca. Unfortunately, we visited during their spring break so it was difficult.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 5 - Excellent -
The staff was great. Even when we felt humiliated because we turned down their dining hall offer to go to a local restaurant (and asked for directions...), they were jovial and happy to help. AND - th
Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent -
Cornell was absolutely beautiful, much more so than I expected. The buildings are attractive and well-kept, even though the gray skies were a little depressing. The gorges are breahtaking.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 5 - Excellent -
From the limited resources I saw, it seemed great.
Dormitories: 5 - Excellent -
I love Risley. :)
Security/Safety: 5 - Excellent -
There were cops and guard stations EVERYWHERE. Even though it's a quasi-urban area, it has a distinctive campus feel. Although it feels more "public" than private, if that makes sense.
Overall Campus Impression: 4 - Very Good -
I really liked Cornell, and my visit solidified my decision to apply. It was a great experience, for sure the most naturally beautiful campus we saw, and an amazingly friendly staff. I also loved Itha
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 5 - Excellent City/Town/Community: 5 - Excellent -
I LOVED Ithaca. I thought it was absolutely adorable. People say it's too small, I really disagree. There are blocks and blocks of campus-directed business, and then it extends radially into town
Campus Visit Notes for Cornell University:
Visit Description:
See above.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
The Ithaca airport is cute.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
Go to that Moose____ something restaurant. It's a famous vegetarian place.
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Parking is a bit of a nightmare. Arrive at the info session at least 20 minutes before it's scheduled to start. And, roads are frequently closed on their campus due to ice.
