Visit to Dartmouth College in July 2008 by x3rose (Student)
Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - It was very informative - gave some basic facts about Dartmouth including the history. It also tried to differentiate itself from other Ivy League schools with the whole college vs. university thing and the D-Plan. It also covered a lot of the basic thing Campus Tour:
Yes - It was a really beautiful campus - I loved the green mainly because it was gigantic and just very pretty. The buildings are nice too but there was a lot of construction. Tour guide was great and told us some of the stories about the school and the resourc
Dartmouth College Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 4 - Very Good -
Tour guide was great, didn't really notice much about the other students. They seemed like nice people though.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 5 - Excellent Appearance of Campus: 4 - Very Good -
Very nice campus - looks a lot like other New England campuses though. Really pretty... I liked the green. :) Construction took away from the appearance though.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 5 - Excellent Dormitories: 4 - Very Good -
Didn't get to see but they looked alright.
Security/Safety: 5 - Excellent -
Very small town and safety was not one of the issues brought up by the tour guide.
Overall Campus Impression: 4 - Very Good -
Great school. I would consider it as a place I could be at IF it wasn't so remote. Hanover is just the middle of nowhere. I also did not like the fact that 37% of the students were in frats/sororities.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 4 - Very Good -
Very pretty, town is right next to the school. It's VERY small. like WAY tiny. couldn't find the starbucks.
City/Town/Community: 1 - Poor -
The closest airport is 2 hrs away (bus ride) in Manchester. If you like big cities, then it's not the place for you. However, because it's such a small town, it seems like it has a great sense of community - everyone probably knows each other
Campus Visit Notes for Dartmouth College:
Visit Description:
I think visiting in the fall or winter would give a better idea of what the school is like. There were only a few students so it felt really quiet and empty. This is especially crucial for Californians or other people who aren't used to real weather (like me!) because, well, it will definitely get cold in the winter.
