Visit to Denison University in June 2007 by Whistle Pig (Student, HS Class of 2007)
Visit Activities:
Admissions Interview:
Yes - Very helpful, and unlike many, it was a 2 way conversation. Campus Tour:
Yes - Campus tour was pretty superficial. Not into many buildings, nor "customize" the tour despite only 2 on tour. Guide was pleasant, enthusiastic, and effervescent. Not particularly knowledge
Denison University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 4 - Very Good Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 5 - Excellent Appearance of Campus: 2 - Fair -
A little "shabby" in spots.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 3 - Good -
OK. Some construction.
Dormitories: 2 - Fair -
They need to invest in this area, it would seem. Like many colleges, they were dated, no AC, not overly current.
Security/Safety: 4 - Very Good Overall Campus Impression: 3 - Good
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 5 - Excellent City/Town/Community: 5 - Excellent -
A beautiful boutiquie, New England type town. Very attractive to an adult. No clue how college students view the town. No comment from guide re: this
Campus Visit Notes for Denison University:
Visit Description:
Tour failed to include outlying residential areas, inside many academic buildings, fine arts quad, or PE/recreational facilities. This is a neat place that could be even more attractive with some thought, planning, training of guide. My student liked it very much regardless of some of this "nitty gritty." An attractive bedroom community, growing like crazy, 30 miles east of Columbus. Easily accessible.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
Granville Inn looked intriguing.
