Visit to Emory University in July 2006 by devils477 (Student, HS Class of 2005)
Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - Standard as far as info sessions go; the guide was bland, reiterated what was in guidebooks, but nonetheless helpful with questions. Campus Tour:
Yes - Excellent; enthusiastic Emory students gave the tour and were better suited to answer questions on student life.
Emory University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 2 - Fair -
Besides our friendly guide, the rest of the campus population seemed a bit drab and dismal. No one was rude, but no one made any effort to say hello.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 3 - Good -
Though helpful with personal q's, the staff gave off the impression that their tours and info sessions had become all too routine for them.
Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent -
The campus is gorgeous; green grass, blooming trees, great weather, and architectural eye candy everywhere.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 5 - Excellent -
Every building I visited was incredibly clean and tidy. The buildings themselves are quite impressive in their design; take note of the gym & eate
Dormitories: 3 - Good -
Just your standard dormitories, nothing special. The dorms we visited were clean and simple. I did like the inclusion of personal sinks for each room.
Security/Safety: 5 - Excellent -
Though crime doesn't seem to be an issue, Emory has great police protection, a "safe ride" escort program, and great public transportat
Overall Campus Impression: 3 - Good -
Though the campus is amazing, I would strongly suggest one visits before deciding to go to Emory. It wasn't until I visited that I knew the scho
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 5 - Excellent -
Surrounded by the suburbs, Emory is a safe and bountiful campus that integrates seamlessly with the neighborhood around it. No crime problems.
City/Town/Community: 5 - Excellent -
About 15 minutes away are two malls, a plenthora of stores and gas stations, clubs, and everything that metro Atlanta has to offer.
Campus Visit Notes for Emory University:
Visit Description:
My best friend and I used up one of our "excused college visit" days our high school offers to set up a visit to Emory. It was a regular fall Friday for Emory students. Ultimately, I was put off by the lack of a "tight" community I got from other college visits. Nevertheless, if you have any interest in Emory, go ahead and visit, it gives you a higher chance of admissions (Emory takes into account "demonstrated interest" of the student).
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Parking was a bit hard to find, but we eventually found a good lot.
