Visit to Emory University in March 2007 by betterday55 (Student, HS Class of 2007)
Visit Activities:
Campus Tour:
Yes - Very fun. I was assigned to this tiny group with only two students, and the other one left because he had to take a dump. So pretty much two sophmores dedicated their time to my personal questions
Emory University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 5 - Excellent -
A freshmen showed me around the campus and took me to his dorm and another park just outside of the campus. It took like 5hrs. A girl also shared her experience. So yea, very friendly
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 5 - Excellent -
very friendly, especially the staff in the cafeteria, i felt like being taken care of by lots of mothers.
Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent -
The campus is quite unique, in a good way. There are lots of trees. The comtemporary Georgian marble buildings are very impressive. And don't even get me started on the Clairemont Campus
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 5 - Excellent -
I think you can definitely tell that Emory has a huge endowment. Everything is taken care of to the tiniest detail.
Dormitories: 4 - Very Good -
The one I saw was just kinda average. But Emory is building a new one for incoming Freshmens. Now that one is going to be very nice, so i hear. An d yes, the Clairemont campus is like a country club
Security/Safety: 5 - Excellent -
The campus is quite compact. And a lot of areas restrict cars from going through. So yea, Emory is very safe. Lots of blue phones. I heard a girl walked back to her dorm at 2am and she felt really safe
Overall Campus Impression: 5 - Excellent -
I dunno what to say, I applied ED and got in without ever visiting Emory. Now i definitely know this is my home for the next 4 years.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 5 - Excellent -
Lots of trees in a rich, safe area. There's a park with a lake built for Emory students just right out of the campus. Emory Village has everything you need. Lots of hospitals and medical centers
City/Town/Community: 5 - Excellent -
Atlanta is great. Georgia Aquarium is the largest acquarium in the world.Buckhead, the trendy area of Atlanta, has at least 5 skyscrappers under construction. It shall be fun in the next few years.
Campus Visit Notes for Emory University:
Visit Description:
Maybe it's only during the spring. But nice sunny day with a comfortable breeze+beautiful architecture+peaceful park in a wealthy, safe neighborhood=perfect. The park nearby gives you serene place to take a nap if you're tired from the busy Atlanta life. There are always students playing frisbee in the quad. The top floor of the library gives you a whole look of the campus. The business school is stylish and grand. Oh yea, when I went to the Mueseum in the campus I saw several monks doing the....forget how you call it. The thing for religious ceremonies made by sand, carefully making a symbol. Apparently the Daili Lama is giving a lecture this fall and they were getting ready for it. And Daili Lama will be visiting Emory periodically from now on.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
I stayed in the Wingate Inn. It was cheap and close to emory (you need a car though)
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
My aunt insisted on eating McDonald salad almost every night. So I didn't really get to eat anything unique. I did eat dinner at Emory and the cafeteria food was actually quite nice.
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Georgia Acquarium. Go there RIGHT NOW. Stone Mountain park wasn't bad either. I would say Atlanta traffic is not great. Streets are not very straight. However, imo it's better than Chicago&
