Campus Visit Notes for Furman University

Visit Description:

This was our family's second trip to Furman. As a mom who was myself admitted to Furman in 1972 and chose another career path, I have encouraged both of our twins to look at Furman.

Our first visit occurred the last weekend of February 2007 during Finals. Because of exams, only information sessions were provided, but tours were not. D and S were pleased with info. session and decided to walk around campus on their own. The feel of students in the student center and library left both kids fairly nonplused- so they were ready to write Furman off the list of prospective colleges.

Having read on CC about the idea of taking kids back for a second look, I persuaded D and S to add a second tour of Furman onto another college summer visit tour. This time the information session and the student-led tour were fabulous. Both kids have a totally different view of the school- framed by their positive experiences with counselors in the admissions office and the student tour guide.
