Visit to Georgetown University in April 2007 by Giantredlobster (Student, HS Class of 2009)
Visit Activities:
Campus Tour:
Yes - Standard-- Tour guide was very enthusiastic and knew his stuff.
No kids ask questions but one dad was very lively.
He asked, "Do the dorms have sprinklers?"
Georgetown University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 4 - Very Good -
Hoya Snaxa kids are very friendly
Directed by numerous students while running in rain
Over all friendly.
Broke up with a girl on the phone while there-- ppl consoled.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 3 - Good -
Lady in Admissions office seemed to have dealt with to many kids that day.
Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent -
They stepped their game up for spring visits, The smell of manure showed they had just planted flowers.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 4 - Very Good -
Only problem was with the wind things started to blow around.
Library was failed attempt at design but none the less it stored books
Dormitories: 3 - Good -
Didn't get to see any inside however plenty of great housing options and town homes are unique and seem like a cool experience.
A Apts have a stellar view.
Security/Safety: 4 - Very Good -
Gtown in general exudes security. I was in DC for 7 days and every night I walked around the campus and the surrounding area as late as 1am feeling completely fine. Many students walked around too.
Overall Campus Impression: 4 - Very Good -
I loved Georgetown the friendliness of the people and the appearance of the campus. Very clean and safe. Also it is small so everything is some what convenient
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 4 - Very Good -
Very Quaint and quiet-- beautiful if you have a brick house fetish.
The high number of campus townhomes is a unique experience and is a great extension to the small size of the actual campus.
City/Town/Community: 5 - Excellent -
Georgetown is the best place in DC. Its amenities overpower the tourist-- and its far enough away from the mall.
I guess there is good night life as well
Campus Visit Notes for Georgetown University:
Visit Description:
I really enjoyed Georgetown. Albeit the first school I have visited I frequent Stanford a lot but I got a much better feel for this school. Ppl where friendly and the campus was small but not cramped so everything was convenient.
If you do go I recommend an Info session as the tour guides assume you have been to one and know all the stuff.
Good Luck!
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
Washington Suites Georgetown STUNK! Literally.
I have really bad smoking allergies and they were so busy that they lied and said we requested a smoking room. I was sick for 3 days until we were moved
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
Zeds Ethiopian
Taj of India
Cosi-- For lunch
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Check out M and Wisconsion good shops.
On maps DC seems very big, however, but things are relatively close. In Georgetown there are 3 dif. bus systems available so getting to Metro/hotel isnt hard.
