Goucher College Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 5 - Excellent Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 5 - Excellent Appearance of Campus: 4 - Very Good -
A large building is being built, so there is a constructon site that is not too attractive at the moment
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 4 - Very Good -
Some areas are less manicured than others, but it doesn't take away from the overall feeling.
Dormitories: 4 - Very Good -
The one we toured was the tour guide's and was one of the older dorms. It seemed a good size for a double. I appreciated that they showed an actual dorm and not a model.
Security/Safety: 3 - Good -
There are emergency call boxes scattered over the campus. All the students we quizzed said they had never felt threatened, But I don't know if there is security that patrols the campus
Overall Campus Impression: 5 - Excellent -
A lovely wooded area with pretty stone buildings, large enough to feel uncrowded, small enough to get from dorm to class in ten minutes.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 5 - Excellent -
Towson is right outside the campus gates. There are shops, restaurants a mall, a movie theatre, all in walking distance.
City/Town/Community: 5 - Excellent -
Baltimore is a bus ride. School provides a shuttle
Campus Visit Notes for Goucher College:
Visit Description:
We loved Goucher. My son loves the idea that he can develop close relationships with professors from day one. There is a real sense of community, with students and faculty working together. One parent asked a student after the info session,"tell us something thats not good here". He was honest enough to say there were some problems with housing for seniors on campus. In making room for incoming freshmen, some seniors have been put in off campus housing. But a commitee of students and faculty have been working on a solution together. He felt that a satisfactory outcome would be reached. I was impressed that seniors wanted to stay on campus! When I was in college, I couldn't wait to get off. That says something about their feeling of wanting to be close to all that goes on. The biggest come down is the price. Next year's total is over 44,000. By the time my son would attend 46,000? We won't qualify for need based aid, So without merit money it is probably out of reach. This is my first post here on CC, and that seems to be a recurring theme.
