Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - Both the Journalism and Kelley Business info sessions were highly informative and helpful. Even helped me rule out Journalism and decide that Business is for me.
Campus Tour:
Yes - It was student led and we were broken up into prospective majors so it made it easier to ask specific questions to the students. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
5 - Excellent
This is something which really stuck out to me...whenever we got lost, the students would go out of their way to help us find what we were looking for. The student body is extremely friendly.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
5 - Excellent
The same goes for the staff.
Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
The campus is absolutely gorgeous, definitely would rank among one of the top three prettiest in the Big Ten. Lots of tall trees, nature, and walking trails, plus wonderful architecture.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
4 - Very Good
All the facilities were very clean, but of course it's a very old school so in some areas that showed.
Dormitories:
4 - Very Good
Much better than any of the other dorms I've seen at other schools. Decent sized rooms (the ones we saw in Wright Quad are the smallest and they really weren't that small). No AC in some dor
Security/Safety:
5 - Excellent
Many of the students commented on how safe they feel on this campus, and how they feel as if they could walk around late at night in Bloomington and not be scared at all. I got the same impression.
Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
Wonderful school and after making that visit I was even able to declare that it was the place for me. Lots of school spirit, friendly students, beautiful campus, and many resources and opportunities.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
2 - Fair
It didn't seem like there was much to do outside the town of Bloomington...but Indianapolis is about an hour away.
City/Town/Community:
5 - Excellent
The town of Bloomington was very nice. The downtown area had lots of nice shops and places to eat, and it seemed like there was a lot going on in the community itself. Many ways to get involved.
Campus Visit Notes for Indiana University Bloomington
Visit Description:
The reason for my visit was the freshmen forums which are intended for students who will be attending the school. When my dad scheduled the appointment, the lady on the phone was very helpful and set up the schedule for us. We received it in the mail about a week later and it had our itinerary for the day written down. So we started off with meeting with everyone who was going to the forums that day, and received some general information. Then we were broken up into smaller groups by major for the student led campus tour. And then my parents and I attended the informational sessions. One at the School of Journalism and one at the Kelley School of Business. Both were very informative and gave me a good idea of what types of courses those students take, what the admissions process is like, what majors are offered, student perspectives and advice, and things which are unique to their programs ie I-Core for Kelley which is an extensive project completed by Kelley students their third year. I really have no complaints or anything negative to say. One thing I can vouch for is the school is very organized in planning these visits, orientations, tours, info sessions etc.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott. No complaints...it was located right outside campus.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
Plenty of options. We just ate at the Q'doba outside the Sample Gates.
