Visit to James Madison University in April 2007 by PSUFBALL (Student, HS Class of 2007)
Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - Very organized. Great slide show presentation. Admission director gave a very informative talk on the university. Overall impression was first class. Campus Tour:
Yes - Our Tour guide was a 2nd year student-major Athletic Training. He did an excellent job on the tour. He gave us key points on the school as well as throwing in little known facts about JMU. Classroom Visit:
Yes - On the tour we were able to see the classroom, but they were in session so we couldn't interupt.
James Madison University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 5 - Excellent -
Everyone on campus seemed friendly and happy to be there. The weather was a little cool but everyone was out walking and mostly everyone had smiles on their faces, and made eye contact!
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 5 - Excellent -
Spoke to the staff in the lunch room and loved working at JMU. They also said the kids are very nice kids.
Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent -
So neat and clean- we arrived on a Weds. morning, we were amazed at how neat and clean everything was. Beautiful Campus!!
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 5 - Excellent -
Looks like they keep up all the facilities. We didn't see any windows missing, nothing broken. No damage anywhere.
Dormitories: 4 - Very Good -
I wished we could have seen a few more rooms. The room we did see was a "tour room" not a room used by students.
Security/Safety: 5 - Excellent -
Security seems to be fine, call boxes around campus. Also campus cadets to walk you to your dorm if needed. Town police also patrol.
Overall Campus Impression: 5 - Excellent -
It looks like the school take a lot of time and money and puts it into the facilities for the students. They were very organized too!
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 4 - Very Good -
Small town. A lot of upperclassman live off campus but housing is not a problem for them. There are buses to get students from one part of campus to another.
City/Town/Community: 4 - Very Good -
We didn't get to see too much of the community, maybe on next visit.
Campus Visit Notes for James Madison University:
Visit Description:
We loved JMU, the campus was beautiful. All the buildings are kept in excellent condition. The feel we got from our tour was that of a friendly place to be. Everyone seemed upbeat and happy to actually be there.
The admission presentation was very well done. The interviews with current students and alumni was great.
One thing everyone should do while on a tour is eat in the cafeteria. We did and we were not disappointed. We got a feel for the campus and the kids. We were amazed at how nice it was.
I would definately recommend JMU!!! This school is on the top of the list.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
We stayed in DC during our visit so we didn't stay near the campus. But looks like there were plenty to choose from.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
Dinning hall - D
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Buses to get around to the other side of campus. One drawback is there is a highway right next to the campus. But there is a bridge and road to get to the other side. Once on campus you don't n
