Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - Admissions Officer Jamil who does the VA, MD, DC areas was funny and the way he talked about the school really made it personal, unlike many generic info sessions.
Campus Tour:
Yes - Tour Guide was friendly and approachable and pointed out many small things about the campus that made me like the school that much more. The campus was really beautiful and the facilities are great.
Classroom Visit:
Yes - We saw a classroom but not while it was in session, and it had NINE blackboards. Also, the classroom was equipped with a touch pad computer put right into the podium--great for presentations.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
4 - Very Good
Our tour guide was great, but it was summer so we didn't see that many students, but some kids that were walking around campus seemed nice, tho a bit shy. A lot of them were asian-20% of the scho
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
2 - Fair
The admissions secretary and the dorm security were a bit blunt and I don't want to go as far as to say unfriendly, but they were definitely not breaking their backs to appear nice.
Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
the campus is BEAUTIFUL, and since so much construction is going on it'll just get even better.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
5 - Excellent
They have everything I could ever want, the athletic facilities are great, with indoor track and pool and treadmills--which are also in charles commons, grass is green, buildings seem clean
Dormitories:
didn't see any from the inside but I love charles commons from the online videos at hop interactive and i love how theres a barnes and nobles and starbucks RIGHT DOWN STAIRS!
Security/Safety:
5 - Excellent
Theres blue lights all around campus and apparently if you press one security will get there in 30 seconds. That's crazy.
Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
I FELL IN LOVE. The only thing i'm worried about is that JHU doesn't guarantee to meet 100% EFC, so I can't apply early :( cause if the aid package is bad I wouldn't be able to aff
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
4 - Very Good
Right around campus seems clean and nice and theres a lot of good restaurants and everything is very convenient, and theres *Free* shuttles to take you to malls and stuff so its great.
City/Town/Community:
2 - Fair
inner harbor is nice, but theres other areas that I would stay away from, cause they're a bit rundown and i even saw a graveyard with the headstones broken. but that wasn't close to campus.
Campus Visit Notes for Johns Hopkins University
Visit Description:
I wasn't sure if I really liked JHU until i went to visit, and now I really wanna go there. The buildings are really pretty, and though the academics are hard, the first semester pass/fail policy really makes things a lot better. Also, the facilities are so amazing, and theres also a lot of arts groups and performances as well. Transportation is really convenient, and the immediate surrounding area has everything that I would want. It's also an urban university but not at the same time, which is great for the college campus type of experience without the hassles of urban life, such as dirty streets and rush hour anger (think NYC here). I also LOVE seafood so that is also a huge bonus. I think the best part about JHU is that it has so many branches, such as SAIS in DC and Bologna and the university's branch in Nanjing, China. So, basically all my interests are covered, as I'm really interested in doing a semester abroad. Besides the iffy financial aid, I don't find any other fault with this school!
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
stayed with a family friend
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
didn't have time to try any restaurants, but my tuna melt at silk road express on campus was good! Hopefully I'll return as a student and have all the time I need to explore restaurants :)
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
I didn't have time to really explore the neighborhoods, but I'm def going to check online what shops they have at Inner Harbor. I spotted an Urban Outfitters and a Filene's as I was dri
