Student courtesy is excellent here at hopkins. Once when I lost my directions, several students simply came up to me to offer their help. People say "Good morning/good evening" even to stran
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 4 - Very Good -
Overall the staff are very helpful at solving any problems that may arise. Paperwork and documents that need approval are always completed on time at the main administrative office.
Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent -
I've never gotten tired of walking on the red-brick paths around the campus and listening to the chimes of the Gilman Hall bell tower. All campus structures are uniformly built in colour and styl
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 5 - Excellent -
Excellent. In, it is one of the most well-maintained campuses I've seen among the top elite colleges like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc.
Dormitories: 4 - Very Good -
With the recent addition of the Charles Commons dorms, the housing situation on campus improved significantly. With the exception of the old AMRs, all dorms are equipped with air conditioning.
Security/Safety: 4 - Very Good -
Although Baltimore isn't the most luxurious or safest place on earth, Hopkins certainly did its best to create an oasis. See below

The environment around campus is a mixture of the good and the not-so-good. On one side, you have an upper class neighbourhood with multi-million dollar mansions, and on the other side, you see...
Campus Visit Notes for Johns Hopkins University:
Visit Description:
The most striking thing about Hopkins is how it has literally created a safe haven on campus. Security on and around campus is very well coordinated. Security guards, patrol cars, monitors, hundreds of hidden cameras, and Baltimore city police can be seen constantly on and around campus. All university dorm building entrances are also monitored by 24/7 security guards at all times. All in all, I feel very safe within the proximity of the school. Campus security also provides a long list of services, such as the escort van service after 5 pm everyday, collegetown shuttles that runs every hour/half hour, and the inter-campus shuttle (which runs every 15 minutes between the main campus, the music conservatory campus, and the medical school campus). These services are free of charge to all jhu students.
As for the quality of education, all classes are being led by qualified professors, and TAs are only used to guide group discussions in some introductory classes (e.g. intro to american politics, intro to macroecon, etc). 4 of the 5 classes I'm taking this semester have less than 30 kids in each class. One class, Karl Marx and Adam Smith, has only 5 people.
Campus dining has also improved significantly over the past year. The new Fresh Food Cafe now has a large variety of foods, and it's open everyday from 7 am until midnight. There are also several other dining halls around campus, including the new Nolan's restaurant in Charles Commons, fully equipped with pool tables, a piano, a warm fire place, a huge HD TV, and other leisure fascilities.
If you've any more questions about hopkins, feel free to IM me.
