Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - Good. Adcom was funny but informative. No power point about GPAs etc. Not boring.

Campus Tour: Yes - Led by a sorority type. Pretty informative. Didn't really go into buildings much. No dorm visit.

Classroom Visit: Yes - Attended basic physics for science majors. DS liked it. About 75 kids with some interactive problem solving. Had to check in at admissions first then go clear to other end of campus. Made DS late.

Campus:

Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:

We were sitting in the main admin area chatting with another family. The tours took off without any announcement without us and we had to catch up. Staff there didn't really seem to care.

Pretty compact, although not small. Not a beautiful campus but not bad.

Area Immediately Around Campus:
Drove thru the not so good neighborhoods on our way there. Pretty standard for inner city stuff.

Campus Visit Notes for Johns Hopkins University

Visit Description:

It was 37 deg and raining the whole time. No umbrellas provided. Tour guide, with umbrella, made no effort to stand under things for the benefit of those of us without.

When I called to schedule a class, we were told to come to admissions after we arrived and then we would find out. I called back and got someone to tell us the times of the class we were interested in so we could figure out when to get there.

The tour was disorganized in the beginning. People came out of info session (we went to a later one), grouped themselves and left without any announcement or anything. We had to run after them once we realized we had been left behind. There were people coming and going and it was confused.

Otherwise it was pretty good. I was overall more favorably disposed at the end than at the beginning. DS liked it fine and it will stay on the list.

They have a whole gym just for varsity athletes!

Did not get any nerdy vibes. Seemed more sophisticated than other schools we've visited.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

Across the street at the Doubletree/Inn at Colonnade. Not cheap but convenient. It is at the other end of the campus from admissions, so we had to drive to admissions and park in the garage.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

Ate on campus at Levering food court. Standard fast food type fare.
