Visit to Johns Hopkins University in August 2006 by jmmom (Parent of Student, HS Class of 2004)
Visit Activities:
Johns Hopkins University Campus:
Dormitories: 5 - Excellent 5 - Excellent - Adding to my previous report, now that S has moved in. This is the nicest room of the 3 he's had (Tulane, Bates due to Katrina and here). Room, furniture and carpet in great condition. Nice common room outside his suite. Even better for upperclas
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 5 - Excellent 5 - Excellent - Have to disagree with another poster. Charles Village has nice restaurants, shops. Feels totally safe to me. Wyman Park on the other side of campus is lovely.
City/Town/Community: 5 - Excellent 5 - Excellent - Baltimore has changed! Vibrant restaurant/culture scene. Neighborhood identities abound, making exploring the city very interesting. Much of the city is walkable and JHU is well-located for walking to a number of areas.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments: Although we stayed with friends most of the time, I noted that Inn at the Colonnade was very attractive and just across the street from campus. We stayed at Towson Comfort Inn two nights (relatively cheap, clean and fine). There are JHU rates at a numbe

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments: Gertrude's at the Baltimore Museum of Art (virtually on campus) is very good, upscale and pricey, but casual. Donna's in Charles Village is a great sandwich/bistro option. One of our best meals ever was at SALT, New American bistro food, in an
