Was able to see one freshman dorm. Seems like beds are able to stack and make many configurations (can put desk under bed or bunk beds, or separate). OK for space and everything was clean/good shape

Blue lights as standard on many college/university campuses. Saw a few college security cars. From what they said seems a bit uptight - have to swipe ID cards in front of security guards in evenings.

Campus Visit Notes for Marist College

Visit Description:

Did a information session & tour.

Prior information session was given a folder of information and view book, and offered coffee... seemed a bit packed. Spoke with a graduate student in the admissions office was very friendly, chatty and helpful.

Then allowed to go into the small theater-style (projection screen) room for info session... had a continuous slideshow beforehand, mainly of scenic views of campus. Short movie and then powerpoint for the presentation, very informative but felt some areas could have been expanded on. Sounds like good oppourtunies for study abroad, they push for internships, and wide range of majors. Short Q&A after; host made it interesting and spoke well, and answered questions well.

Tour was good length, not too much walking but was able to see a fair share of things. My one complaint was that we kept on bumping into other tour groups (4 were going simultaneously) which made it hard to hear at times and it could have been planned better. Saw a freshman dorm, where the student was very chatty and helpful. Seemed like you could arrange beds in many ways (stack as bunkbeds, stack with desk underneath, leave separate) and looked very clean and good condition. Nothing amazing, but good for a college room.

Also saw main cafeteria and smaller quick stop cafe, library (very nice), hallways of some of the buildings where we could peek into labs and classrooms. Gym and athletic facilities looked nice - volleyball game was going on with band playing. Small pool and diving well, and cardio/weight machines in separate area.

Campus was very nice, students friendly, overall got a warm feeling from the campus and school, definitely a potential for me!

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

I was coming from MA - took Rt. 9 up off Rt. 84. You can also take the Taconic State Parkway as a way to get to Marist (or leaving). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to see bit of Poughkeepsie & alt view.
