Campus Visit Notes for Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Visit Description:

I would have to say the MIT tour was perhaps the best campus tour I have taken; it completely changed my initial perception of MIT. The tour lasted longer than the promised less than one hour since the guide was extremely specific and took time to find the personal interests of each person in the tour and tailored the tour to the feedback. The tour was extremely comprehensive and covered most of the campus. It was summer, thus most of the students were either conducting research or tours. Yet, unlike Caltech, most people were outside and active; the indoor athletic facilities were filled. Our tour guide was a coordinator for the main athletic facility and provided a testimony that though studying is the main activity at MIT, students also find time to partake in physical activities, a fact supported by the number of intercollegiate sports. What really changed my perception of MIT was the ability of our tour guide. First, he apologized to us for having to sit through the monotonous info session which was given, in his opinion, by a weak admissions person (who was also a student). He then tried to make up for the poor session by providing a plethora of information throughout his tour. Therefore, ours was the last tour to end, yet I did not feel that it was as tiring as the other long tours since the information I gained greatly mitigated the pain in my feet.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Take the subway its much better than trying to find parking
