Visit Activities:
Admissions Interview:
Yes - The Interview was very interesting; learned about undergraduate research opportunities, talked about clubs and activities, got a good idea of a portrait of a student after graduation.
Campus Tour:
Yes - Loved the tour! I already knew most of the information but the campus is gorgeous and definitely worth a visit. Learned about various student centers and general layout of buidings.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
5 - Excellent
Everyone was friendly; very understanding about the excitement of the prefrosh, willing to point people in the right direction when they were lost.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
4 - Very Good
Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
Like I said before, absolutely gorgeous. Killiam court face the Charles and the Boston skyline,
All the buildings are easy to get to (even though they don't go in any kind of numerical order)
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
5 - Excellent
Dormitories:
Didn't go into any of the dorms but from what I've heard from students, they're great.
Security/Safety:
5 - Excellent
Well lit, lots of campus security and emergency button things all over the place.
Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
I already loved the school when I went so I might be a little biased :)
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
5 - Excellent
Cambridge is an excellent place for a college; a nice "small town" to study in right outside the city, where more exciting things are easily accessible.
City/Town/Community:
4 - Very Good
Campus Visit Notes for Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Visit Description:
I went with my friends and her family. We got there a little early, so we explored the campus on our own for a little bit. Everyone we met and asked for help was great. When the tour started, the leader was nice and down to Earth (I don't remember his name but I know he's in course 9 like I hope to be). He told all about the serious side of school, like reasearch opportunities, libraries, class size, etc. He also talked about several different hacks, which I thought was interesting. After the tour, We went out on the campus on our own again; walked through different dining centers, and found our way to the bookstore and the building of the department I want to go into. If you get the chance, definitely visit the Stata center. The architecture of that place is fantastic.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
I stayed at the Sheraton Boston; don't know about pricing, but accomodations were wonderful.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
Definitely check out Quincy Market (especially The Black Rose) and Summer Shack. The Restaurant at the top f the Prudential Center is nice, too.
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
The T gets super crowded at rush hour, so if you plan to use it make sure to leave plenty of time to get places.
