Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - Informative, and the dean gave a very thorough overview of life at NYU and answered any questions I had.

Campus Tour: Yes - We had a great tour guide who really epitomized the NYU student- worldly and eloquent. The buildings and general atmosphere were just beautiful. I love that there's a bathroom in every dorm room!

Campus:

Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:

Some people say all New Yorkers are rude, but I highly doubt that- everyone I spoke with at NYU was genuinely nice.

The ones that we did meet were all very friendly, including the security in every building!

Appearance of Campus:

The general ambiance of New York is just stunning, and so I couldn't ask for a better "campus" (there really isn't one).

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:

Everything from the libraries to the bathroom floors was shiny and looking brand new.

I've been various NYU dorm rooms, and I must say I love the apartment style rooms and the fact that there's a bathroom in every room.

Amazing security- there's a security guard in literally every building and you need key cards for entrance.

Overall Campus Impression:

This is going to sound like such a cheesy remark, but the people, the buildings, the atmosphere- everything just seems almost perfect at NYU.

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:

The "campus" is situated right in the middle of New York City! What else could you ask for?

City/Town/Community:

Perfect city for college students, especially if you crave Chinese food at 4 in the morning or just want a falafel.

Campus Visit Notes for New York University

Visit Description:

New York City is such a diverse, eclectic neighborhood that I think it's perfect for a school setting. I know the whole non-campus, in-the-city vibe isn't for everyone, but I recommend that people try to visit the school if they can. Naysayers will find that though there is no "campus", student life really isn't as disjointed as one might assume of a school without a real campus. The tour guide really tried to make a note of this, that there are activities and programs available to make students really feel a sense of belonging at NYU. There is a housing option called the Explorations program where people who share a certain interest can house together; a floor dedicated to Broadway-bound scholars or a floor for those who see entrepreneurship in their futures allows students to come together. Also, while I already mentioned this twice above, the fact that there is a bathroom in every dorm room pretty much seals the deal for me, as I'm sure it does for other students who dislike the idea of communal showers.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

I personally like staying at the Holiday Inn in Chinatown, just because it's close to campus and relatively inexpensive.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

Grey's Papaya has great, inexpensive hot dogs, but if you're looking for something that doesn't come with sauerkraut, I would suggest Ruby Foo's in Times Square, or even Jean-Georg

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

A MetroCard for the subway will be your best friend in terms of travel. I also suggest catching a Broadway show if you're visiting!
