Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: No - I did not visit for an interview- I don't think NYU does interviews unless you are trying for a special program (fine art, dancing, etc.)

Information Session: Yes - The information session was great. First we heard from one of the admissions officers, then we took a tour with one of the students. They answered every question that the prospective students had.

Campus Tour: Yes - One of the students at the university took us on a tour. We visited a dorm, a classroom, the library, the student center, and the bookstore.

Classroom Visit: Yes - We did not stay in the classroom for long, but we were able to look in on the classroom for a couple of minutes. The classroom was small and clean, and the students seemed to really be engaged.

Campus:

Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
4 - Very Good
4 - Very Good
Our tour guide was a student, and he was incredibly friendly, as all the tour guides seemed to be. Walking along one of the streets, though, a few students seemed to be annoyed at our large group.

Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
4 - Very Good
4 - Very Good
We did not get to meet much of the staff, but the admissions officer that we did meet seemed to be friendly and open to any questions we had.

Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent
The campus is in the middle of the best part of New York City (Greenwich Village), which I love, so I am a bit biased, but the campus was incredible for being in the middle of NYC.

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent
Every building we saw seemed incredibly clean and well kept, especially for NYC. In fact, even the outside of the buildings were looked clean, considering their location.

Dormitories:
3 - Good
3 - Good
For me, this was the only downside of NYU. The dorms were incredibly small and the prices were incredibly big (I know you are just paying for the location). Also, many of them were a bit of a walk.

Security/Safety:
4 - Very Good
4 - Very Good
The tour guide made a point to say that Greenwich Village is one of the safest parts of New York. Also, he mentioned that there was a very efficient police department at the University.

Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent
Overall the campus seemed to be in a great location, close to anything a college student would need.

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent
Since there is no actual "campus," its hard to say. Greenwich Village is, in my opinion, one of the best parts of NYC. There seemed to be a lot of places that catered to college students.

City/Town/Community:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent
It's New York City, for goodness sakes. It's the greatest city in the world!

Campus Visit Notes for New York University

Visit Description:

Overall, I loved New York University. The students seemed great, the academic programs seemed solid, and the "campus" was just wonderful. Unfortunately, on my visit, I realized that the university was not quite for me. Although I really wanted to live in NYC, I recognized that I needed a more traditional campus with fewer distractions. For me, my number one priority in college will be academics, and I know that at NYU it would be hard for me to focus (I am easily distracted- I am always wanting to do something new). For someone with a bit more discipline, though, I would definitly recommend visiting, and for that matter, applying, to NYU. It seemed to be one of the best colleges in the US.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

I actually drove up to NYU just for the day, but it is in New York City, so there are plently of wonderful places to stay.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

We actually ate at a small Chinese restaurant near the campus and the food was amazing. I cannot think of the name, though, but I'm sure if you ask around you can find it.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Parking is TERRIBLE around the university. This was another downside. If you can, take public transportation. If you cannot, good luck. And if you do find a spot, expect to pay a pretty penny.
