Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - It was pretty long but that was alright because one of the admissions officers told us about the different schools, the admissions process, scholarships, etc. It was very informative.
Campus Tour:
Yes - I really enjoyed it because they showed us a dorm room, the kimmel center (activities center), the bobst library (which was amazing), and then we sat in a class room.
Classroom Visit:
Yes - We sat in a typical classroom and talked about classes and college credits. The room was kinda small, and I'm pretty sure there's bigger ones. It was very modern, though.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
4 - Very Good
I only really got to meet the tour guide that we had. She was very nice and she told us about little NYU trivia (like how they became the bobcats).
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
4 - Very Good
The ladies at the welcome center were great. We didn't even sign up for a tour and they found a way to include us. The admissions officer was helpful.
Appearance of Campus:
4 - Very Good
Well, there really isn't an NYU campus. The buildings are scattered throughout. Washington Square was sort of the center. They like to say the city is the campus, and I truly believe that.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
4 - Very Good
The buildings were very modern. They were all nicely decorated. Because of security reasons, though, we couldn't really walk around in them.
Dormitories:
4 - Very Good
Each dorm room has a bathroom! But I still think the room was too small. That was in a freshman residence hall, though. I heard the upperclassmen's are pretty large.
Security/Safety:
4 - Very Good
There are guards stationed at every building and students have to bring their NYU cards everywhere. When they are coming home late from the library, all they have to do is call an NYU bus. It's g
Overall Campus Impression:
4 - Very Good
There is no visible centralized campus, but if having NYC as the background is great for you, then you won't mind. It's my dream school, but a part of me still longs for the typical college
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
5 - Excellent
Greenwhich Village is beyond amazing! There's just so much to do and so many places to eat (Chinatown, Little Italy, and SoHo are just around the corner), just looking around makes your eyes wate
City/Town/Community:
5 - Excellent
It's in NYC!!!! What else can I say?
Campus Visit Notes for New York University
Visit Description:
NYU is definitely not for everyone. The lack of a campus and hype for sports (they're division III) will be a letdown for people who are really looking forward to a typical college experience. The buildings are way too spread-out. However, I think it's such a great trade-off to be able to go to college right in the heart of downtown NYC. The students there seemed very independent. The security, as I already said, impressed me very much because I didn't think it would be so safe there considering it's in a city. After the tour, we stayed in Washington Square and watched the filming of Step Up 3 (rob pattinson filmed there the day before).
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
We took a cab down to Chinatown and on the way there were just so many restaurants that looked amazing.
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Well, that's kinda self-explanatory, since it's in NYC
