Visit to New York University in April 2008 by zoolander (Student, HS Class of 2008)
Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - Very informative. Long and ample time for questioning. Be sure to come a bit early (you don't to be late) Campus Tour:
Yes - The campus is very non-traditional. In a certain sense, the city is your campus. The academic buildings are around Washinton Square(cept for some, exp. medical school) Classroom Visit:
Yes - I went into some of the class rooms. Some of the classrooms at tisch hall(undergraduate Stern building) are really nice while others are a bit dated. They are fixing up the old ones so it is nice.
New York University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 5 - Excellent -
The ones I met are very nice and open. They are very liberal and you have to be very tolerent and open minded to fit in but if you aren't i don't where you would.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 5 - Excellent -
Very nice people. security guard let me go into some "restricted areas" (stupid rules: i couldn't go in because i wasn't with a tour group but i still had a prospective stern stud
Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent -
The building are very nice. Some are old and have history. the science building is where the triangle shirtwaist fire took place. It is NYC
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 5 - Excellent -
They are very clean, expecially considering it is NYC
Dormitories: 5 - Excellent -
The dorms are nice as hell. my next year's dorm is either on 5th avenue! or broadway. They are all old hotels or luxury apartments. Private bathrooms, some with walk in closet and freshman kit
Security/Safety: 4 - Very Good -
It is NYC. security guards everywhere. The area is not that bad, my dorm is near apartments with doormen, etc. But it is the city and you have use common sense. Alot of drug dealers and homeless
Overall Campus Impression: 5 - Excellent -
Overpriced? NO! it is NYC. where else do you live in NYC , have a great education and live in a dorm better than your own house?
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 5 - Excellent -
It is the village. Gentrification certainly has fixed up the place. Certain areas like alphebet city is still a little shifty but you are quite a few blocks away.
City/Town/Community: 5 - Excellent -
