Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - The information session is great for someone who is just learning about Northeastern, but if you research it and go through the website, you won't learn anything that you didn't already know
Campus Tour:
Yes - Awesome campus! Even though its in the middle of the city, there's grass and trees! Traditional "campus-y" feel without sacrificing location.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
4 - Very Good
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
4 - Very Good
Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
5 - Excellent
Dormitories:
3 - Good
I saw Stetson West, and the room was small. It's nothing that you couldn't adapt to, though, as long as you stay organized. It's the EXACT same room as the 360 view on their website.
Security/Safety:
4 - Very Good
I noticed the blue security lights wherever I went (you can see at least one from any given point). Because its in the city, its obviously not going to be as secure as a rural school.
Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
Beautiful campus. Most of the buildings look new/renovated/updated. There are two T stops on campus and between the two, you can go anywhere in Boston (Orange line and Green line).
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
3 - Good
Very close to Fenway, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Isabella Stewart Gardiner Museum.
City/Town/Community:
5 - Excellent
Personally, I love Boston! Its great for sports fans and there are tons of things to do.
Campus Visit Notes for Northeastern University
Visit Description:
- The campus seems a bit out of place (in a good way) because it actually feels like a traditional college campus, but it's in the middle of the city. Everything is within a reasonable distance and you don't have to walk too far to get to the library, your dorm, the T, the student center, etc.
- This has nothing to do with the tour, but Northeastern's co-op program is amazing. You can get up to 1 1/2 years of PAID experience related to your major which is GREAT for the resume. While you're on co-op, you also don't have to pay tuition because you're not in class.
- If you live even remotely close to Northeastern, don't drive in! You'll save yourself the nightmare of driving in Boston (which includes a lot of weird traffic patterns and one-way streets) and save a small fortune on parking. Commuter rail goes right into North Station and from there you can get on the T. You can go all over the city much faster than you would driving and it gives you more of an idea of what getting around will be like in college.
