Visit to Northwestern University in March 2008 by unckid23 (Student, HS Class of 2009)
Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - Very informative. I liked how Northwestern is very generous with financial aid, 72% or so of classes contain less than 20 students, excellent student:faculty ratio, and the "quarter system" Campus Tour:
Yes - Thought the campus itself was nice, especially how it was on the lake. However, it seemed barren (I guess because it was a Friday), and it was FREEZING --> 12˚F + windchill off the lake
Northwestern University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 3 - Good -
I honestly only saw a few students, and that was in the cafeteria, so there is really nothing to base it off of.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 3 - Good -
Same as above
Appearance of Campus: 4 - Very Good -
There was snow everywhere, but I could tell that the campus would be beautiful once the sun comes out. The lake adds a nice touch to it, Evanston is a cool little town, and the lake has a beach
Dormitories: -
Looked nice from the outside; I saw a few Frats too (40% of student body is in frats/sororities). Interesting fact: Frats and Sororities are exactly 1 mile apart
Security/Safety: 4 - Very Good -
I noticed an emergency help phone, in which help is required to come in less than 60 sec, in the middle of the campus
Overall Campus Impression: 3 - Good -
I truly liked it, BUT, it was too cold for me, and I didn't get the 100% "I belong here" feel.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 4 - Very Good -
Pretty upscale, has many restaurants, shops, etc. Also, it's only 20 min. to Chicago, which is great.
City/Town/Community: 5 - Excellent -
Chicago is right around the corner...Deep Dish Pizza is amazing
