Campus Visit Notes for Oberlin College

Visit Description:

My daugther's favorite college visit. She and I and her mom fell in love with the town and the "quaintness," although I'm aware looks can be deceiving.

The combination of Oberlin's College of Arts and Sciences and Conservatory of Music, right there on one campus is awesome. 199 Steinway pianos (most of 'em grands), multiple concert halls, thousands of instruments? Are you kidding me?

We were impressed. We're not from Ohio, but my daughter felt very comfortable.

The most "liberal" liberal college we've visited. A few dorms are communal showers, boys and girls together. Fortunately there were some girls only accomodations. As parents, we liked that part.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

Stayed at the Oberlin Inn, the only place in town. It's clean and inexpensive and right there. You can walk to everyplace from it. Warning: The rooms are tiny. Diminutive.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

Very good. Not many places in this tiny town but the dining that is available is very good. Try the Asian Fusion food at Wei Tai, I think it was called. Awesome. Not your common Chinese American stuf

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

It's a tiny town. If you're planning on venturing out to find a mall or locate Cleveland, 35 miles away, bring a car.
