Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - The program was put together pretty well. Most of my questions were answered
Campus Tour:
Yes
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
3 - Good
Definately a "party school." The students I spoke to were outgoing, but in a bit of an off-putting matter if you know what I mean.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
4 - Very Good
Appearance of Campus:
3 - Good
The campus was pretty nice. Nothing that really set it about other large rural campuses.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
4 - Very Good
Everything was pretty clean. Some of the buildings and classrooms are kind of old.
Dormitories:
2 - Fair
I saw the East Hall dorms. They were pretty gross, even for freshmen housing.
Security/Safety:
4 - Very Good
It seems like a pretty safe campus. I think the biggest safety fear is drunk students.
Overall Campus Impression:
3 - Good
It seemed like a pretty average state school. Nothing really set it apart from its peers, and it really does not compete with top schools.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
2 - Fair
There's a small town, but that's about it.
City/Town/Community:
3 - Good
It's a nice little town. Not much to do, but it's alright.
Campus Visit Notes for Penn State University Park
Visit Description:
I took a guided tour along with an information session. The day was very well put together, and everything ran smoothly. I just was not very impressed with the school. It is not a bad school, but it is mediocre. I just felt that PSU was not as academically focused as other schools, even other "party schools" like OSU. The school pride was pretty cool, but I think for me it would get a little annoying. Also, as I mentioned before, this is most definately a party school. Just from the day I spent there I could tell that alcohol was a big part of student life.
