Visit to Princeton University in August 2006 by kraor143 (Student, HS Class of 2006)
Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - Informational (haha of course), answered questions... Campus Tour:
Yes - Great! Very knowledgable tour guide. He told us all about the history of the campus-like the Revolutionary War & Nassau Hall. He was very enthusiastic and talked about the campus, theses, classes, Classroom Visit:
Yes - One of the professors was AMAZING! the other was still better than a regular high school teacher, and the discussions were really intriguing.
Princeton University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 5 - Excellent -
One student saw me looking lost and gave me detailed directions to my destination, and even walked me halfway there until I was sure I could find the way. Everyone was really welcoming and friendly.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 4 - Very Good -
I didn't talk to a ton of staff people of course, but the ones I did talk to were very open and informative.
Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent -
GORGEOUS campus. Definitely the most beautiful one I've seen, with amazing gothic architecture and landscaping.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 5 - Excellent -
Everying I saw was well maintained and clean.
Dormitories: 5 - Excellent -
I stayed in a large dorm with 2 rooms and a private bathroom for 3 people. I saw another room, in the dorm building generally considered to be the worst, but the room was actually very nice.
Security/Safety: 5 - Excellent -
The campus & surrounding city are definitely safe. If you ever did feel unsafe on campus, there are blue light phones spaced out with red buttons to press in order to summon emergency personnel.
Overall Campus Impression: 5 - Excellent -
Amazing!!! It's SO beautiful, safe, well-maintained, and has a great feeling. Everyone is happy, friendly, and willing to help. I LOVE the gothic stone buildings.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 4 - Very Good -
There's a cute shopping center across the street, and I think the area around campus is great for jogging.
City/Town/Community: 5 - Excellent -
I love it. It's not urban, but it's definitely not rural. Very safe. There are buses to take you to nearby malls and trips to NYC (1 hour away). Philadelphia is pretty close (~1 hr I think).
Campus Visit Notes for Princeton University:
Visit Description:
I stayed overnight at Princeton. It was very fun, and all the people I met were amazingly interesting and outgoing. Definitely not uptight or overly studious. I love the feeling on campus with the gorgeous buildings.
Each dorm building has its own perks, which is also nice, and everyone becomes very attached to their residential hall. The RCAs are really nice and buy stuff (mainly food) for the dorm inhabitants. The campus is big enough to be diverse and feel spacious, but it's small enough that it never takes THAT long to walk anywhere. There are tons of places that were kind of "hidden" and you had to discover them. Like a cool library/study place and an underground tea house place with couches, games, and free cookies & tea.
The professors were really great, and made subjects incredibly interesting.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
Stayed on campus.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
Ate on campus too. Residential food was pretty good, and Frist food was amazing.
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Train station right on campus, which is convenient if you want to visit NYC. Residential buildings sponsor trips to NYC, which cost ~$25 for transportation and a broadway show! (and maybe dinner too?)
