Visit to Princeton University in April 2007 by purplegirl (Student, HS Class of 2007)
Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - Very crowded. Adcom was very intimidating. Kept reinforcing how competitive it is to get in. That they get 20,000 applications and the applicant has to have a hook. Campus Tour:
Yes - Very crowded. At least 120 people on tour with each guide. More like a museum tour. Did not see dorms, or classrooms, just outside of historic buildings
Princeton University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 3 - Good -
Most students looked tired and sat alone in common areas.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 2 - Fair -
There is no admissions officer or office. We were handed 2 inch wide paper to write your name on and what time you wanted a tour. There were only students to greet you. Very impersonal
Appearance of Campus: 4 - Very Good Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 3 - Good -
Only could see the outside.
Dormitories: 2 - Fair -
Not shown inside. Looked like there was no A/C in the older buildings but there was construction.
Security/Safety: 3 - Good -
They said it was safe
Overall Campus Impression: 3 - Good
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 4 - Very Good -
Town of Princeton is very nice. Very close to campus. Lots of shops, cafes, etc.
City/Town/Community: 4 - Very Good -
Very nice.
Campus Visit Notes for Princeton University:
Visit Description:
Felt that the Princeton tour was more what the student could do for Princeton rather than what they could do for you. Had always thought I wanted to go to Princeton but I found the whole afternoon very intimidating.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
Drove for the day.
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Parking was hard to find. They directed my dad to some garage that was a long way back to tour meeting place.
