Visit to Princeton University in August 2007 by mysundown (Student, HS Class of 2007)
Visit Activities:
Information Session: Yes - The admissions officer was charismatic. He gave a talk on the policies of the adoffice (like other colleges' beginning talks) and then had a VERY informative Q and A session. Campus Tour: Yes - Fantastic! Enthusiastic tour guide despite all the rain. Pretty campus. Classroom Visit: Yes - Attended a big lecture. The lecture was amusing and I wasn't lost..the intense looks on other peoples' faces scared me though.
Princeton University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 4 - Very Good - Nice kids offered to help me as I walked around holding a map. Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 3 - Good - Didn't talk to many people. The admissions officers kind of forgot about me though. Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent - Extremely well groomed and beautiful. Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 4 - Very Good Dormitories: 3 - Good - I was in Forbes... next to the garbages...I saw much nicer rooms though. Security/Safety: 5 - Excellent Overall Campus Impression: 5 - Excellent
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 4 - Very Good - Affluent, quiet suburbs. Lots of soccer moms and kids. City/Town/Community: 3 - Good - Didn't see much of it except a starbucks and some expensive looking boutiques.
Campus Visit Notes for Princeton University:
Visit Description: I visited twice, once with family during a pre-senior year general college tour and once after being accepted for an overnight stay. The general admissions talk was like any other, but the tour guide was exceptionally nice and knowledgeable. The campus also impressed me at first glance! When I came back to visit in more detail,all factors were initially against Pton actually... it was miserable and pouring rain. The admissions officers accidentally forgot about me (dripping wet with a suitcase) and gave me makeshift meal tickets, but I did get to eat and also got a wonderful host. The classes I visited were funny and interesting (stats and some history class). Besides the weather, my overnight trip was nearly perfect. I could not have expected a better way to convince myself that I should go there. Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.): What I can foresee as being a pain in the behind is that we can't really park on campus, but do it in a parking lot and walk around. I had to drag my big suitcase around for nearly 2 hours.
